Freeform Contemplative Walking: A Nature Walk

Main Campus - Library & Edith Moore Nature Center

This adult class introduces Freeform Contemplative Walking, a practice of connecting with the Holy Spirit while walking in nature. Participants will learn the practice's scriptural and philosophical basis, then take a guided walk through the Edith Moore Nature Center, concluding with reflection in the library. No prior experience is required, but participants should be able to walk on uneven trails. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a journal, cell phone, and headphones. Meet in the library on Main Campus. Led by Mark Antley, Contemplative Practitioner and MDUMC member since 2022.

Our Next Steps class is happening Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 12:15 pm at The Refuge on our West Campus. In the Next Steps class you will learn more about what it means to be a member of the Methodist Church and also at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church through your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. There will also be an opportunity to learn about the many ways you can get plugged in at MDUMC outside of worship including Sunday School classes, Bible Studies, volunteer opportunities, and much more. 

Lunch will be provided at no cost to you as well as childcare for those that need it.

Kip Gilts, will help to lead us in a time of worship and share what is happening in our annual conference and how MDUMC can make an impact among other United Methodist churches in our region.

Shamba Ya Amani (“the Farm of Peace” in Swahili) is located in the Alief area and directed by FAM’s Women’s Empowerment Group. Members of this group work together each Saturday, along with volunteers, to plant, maintain, and harvest community rows as well as individual family beds. Shamba is also home to a number of beehives that are tended by mothers and youth in the FAM community.

All Saints Concert | 7 PM | Main Campus - Sanctuary

Join us for a moving concert featuring Samuel Barber’s Adagio For Strings and Dan Forrest’s Requiem For The Living. Requiem For The Living is designed to “form a narrative just as much for the living, and their own struggle with pain and sorrow, as for the dead”. Led by Dr. Stephen Martin, this performance with chancel choir, string orchestra, woodwinds, and harp, offers a profound narrative of hope and remembrance. During the concert, there will be moments to light candles in memory of loved ones who have passed. All are welcome at this free concert!
