Project registration is now open!

One Great Day of Service (OGDOS) is MDUMC’s annual all-church service project. There are service opportunities on Saturday, April 6 & Sunday, April 7. Join us in making a difference in our community!

  • Participants provide their own transportation to all projects. Carpooling from home or MDUMC is encouraged!

  • We will be collecting food items for an OGDOS Project during the entire month of March. See the list below.

Saturday, April 6
Opportunities to serve with a community partner

Mission of Yahweh

9 AM - 12 PM
Mission of Yahweh is faith-based shelter that empowers, enriches, and restores the lives of homeless women and children by providing emergency shelter and transitional living facilities, in addition to educational and vocational support. Volunteers will be sorting and organizing donations in the resale shop.

The Beacon

7:15 - 10 AM
Located in downtown Houston, The Beacon provides essential services for individuals experiencing homelessness. OGDOS volunteers will support The Beacon by assisting with laundry services and stocking supplies.

Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) - REGISTRATION FULL

9 - 11:30 AM
MAM offers a range of programs and services that focus on building financially stable families, a strong workforce, and vibrant communities. Since its conception in 1982, MAM has served more than 16,000 individuals. OGDOS volunteers will sort and organize donations in the resale shop.

Houston Food Bank

8 AM - 12 PM
The Houston Food Bank has served more than 1 million food-insecure Texans by distributing food and other essentials through their network of 1,600 community partners. OGDOS volunteers will be stocking and packaging food.

FAM Houston, Shamba Ya Amani

8 AM - 12 PM
FAM provides support and services for resettled refugee women. Shamba Ya Amani (farm of peace) The farm is run by refugees, immigrants, and local Houstonians with the hope that this agricultural endeavor will serve as a model for increasing food access and human connection. OGDOS volunteers will be doing gardening and general clean-up.


 

Sunday, April 7
Opportunities to serve on both MDUMC campuses and feed our community.

Main Campus - Gym | 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
The congregation and adult Sunday school classes are invited to pack meals for Rise Against Hunger. Come and go as you are able. Children will have a special outreach project during Sunday school. No registration required. 

West Campus - The Refuge | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
The congregation and adult Sunday school classes invited to make sandwiches for Kids’ Meals. Come and go as you are able. Children will have a special outreach project during Sunday school. No registration required. 


Donations needed 

MDUMC is collecting food donations during the month of March for OGDOS.

We are preparing 200 meal bags for West Houston Assistance Ministries and are collecting items to fill the bags before OGDOS. Please bring any of the following donations to the Journey lobby or Narthex by Sunday, March 31:

  • dry beans

  • bag of rice

  • box of mac & cheese

  • jar of peanut butter

  • canned fruit

  • pasta sauce

  • large can of chicken or tuna

  • box of cereal
