BECOMING A MEMBER OF MDUMC

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
— Hebrews 10:24-25

Our pastors and staff are here to help answer any questions you may have service, and witness. Our pastors and staff are here to help answer any questions you may have about joining, and we are excited to welcome you home as a new member.

Joining the church means that you commit to following Jesus Christ in community with others here at MDUMC.

There are three ways to become a member:

1. Baptism & Confirmation

We believe baptism is an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace marking us as the children of God and welcoming us into the body of Christ. At MDUMC, we baptize adults with a profession of faith and children as a sign of God’s grace later professed at confirmation. For questions and scheduling, please contact confirmation. For questions and scheduling, please contact KellyVicente@mdumc.org.

Likewise, through the rite of Confirmation we renew the covenant declared at our baptism, acknowledge what God is doing for us and affirm our commitment to Christ’s holy Church. Confirmation classes are offered for students each year to help them profess Christ and develop their own faith through grace. Learn more about Confirmation at www.mdumc.org/confirmation

2. Profession of Faith and Membership Questions

If you were baptized as a child but never confirmed, or if you have never professed faith in Jesus Christ, we will ask you these questions:

  • Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin?

  • Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice and oppression in Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? whatever forms they present themselves?

  • Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace and promise to serve him as your Lord in union with the church - which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races? ages, nations, and races?

  • As a member of MDUMC will you faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness?

3. Transfer of Membership

If you have previously been a baptized, professing member of another Christian church, then we will simply transfer your membership to MDUMC. Additionally, we will ask you to reaffirm your commitment to Christ to support MDUMC with your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.
