Christianity for the rest of Us: A Transformative Pilgrimage
Register Online for Seminar
The way Americans practice religion in this post-modern world is changing. Many well-known denominations are putting more and more emphasis on practice-centered Christianity as a way of faith and finding that these practices are revitalizing their congregations. In her book, Christianity for the Rest of Us: A Transformative Pilgrimage, Dr. Butler Bass explores how this kind of Christianity might transform us, our congregations and God’s world.
Christianity for the Rest of Us , published in 2006, has been named one of the best books of the year by Publishers Weekly and named Book of the Year by the Academy of Parish Clergy. This contemporary ethnography explores the role of mainline religion in cultural and social change. To put it in Dr. Butler Bass’ words “I’m talking about a new, generous, practicing sort of post-modern Christianity, a kind of Christianity that is embracing and redefining tradition while enacting justice in the world. These Christians practice their faith with renewed enthusiasm, are experimenting with new forms of worship and service, and are, by their insistence on friendship, justice, and diversity, reforming the structures and traditions in which they find themselves.”
